I have had a few emails recently from people that are starting out on their own trans journey or who are looking to add makeup to their sissification routine and they have asked about which make up I use and do I offer makeup tutorials.
I thought I would write a blog post about the makeup that I use so it can be a reference point tor those that are interested. Just before I list all of the products, I want to share with you the first time that someone did my makeup for me. I remember walking into the Boots in Bolton and asking the woman on the No 7 counter for advice. She said would do my makeup for me and tell me about the products as she did it. We arranged a date and time for her to come over which looking back was really brave of her. She arrived and she started to do my makeup, I was so excited to have my makeup "professionally" done. Now without wanting to sound ungrateful, when she had finished and she did the big reveal, I was heartbroken... I looked like Aunt Sally from Worzel Gummidge (not the look I was going for). From that point on, I decided to teach myself, using magazines and books etc (kids, there was no Youtube back then). Makeup takes time and practice you need to get to know your face, your tones and what works for you. You will have your Aunt Sally moments and don't get me started on my mistakes with duck egg blue eyeshadow. It's never perfect to start with... but the best things is, starting.
So what is in my makeup bag? This is my go to everyday makeup, it's all from the high street so it is affordable and easy to apply...
ELF Power Grip Primer
NYX Cant Stop Foundation in Buff (this is being discontinued but still available on Amazon)
Barry M Banana Powder
Rimmel Loose Powder in Translucent
Rimmel The Multi Tasker Concealer in Fair
Rimmel Natural Bronzer
Rimmel Lip Liner Pencil (the one you can sharpen) in various shades
Rimmel Eye Liner Pencil (the one you can sharpen) in black
MUA Makeup Academy Amplify Statement Lash Mascara in black (so cheap but so good)
Eyelure Smokey Eye Lashes No. 23
NYX Eye Shadow Pallets (currently loving Ultimate Warm Neutrals)
Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink shade 325 (my signature look)
Barry M Brow Kit in Dark (possibly the best on the market)
Plus makeup sponges, brushes and powder puff. Christmas is a great time to pick this stuff up and the gift sets are a great starter pack.
Pro Tip: The remove makeup, do NOT buy expensive cleansers. Use a jar of coconut oil and a flannel with warm water. You will thank me later.
The best thing about this list is that most of the items, if not all, are available from Amazon which cuts out the awkward shopping trip.
You do not need high end brands... yes they maybe a little better in quality and the packaging maybe fancy but trust me, the list above is the same list that I have been using for years. You will of course have to get the right colour foundation which is the tricky part.
If you need anymore info, please feel free to message me.
